1 min readChief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, has opened up about the pain her father endured during a coup led by the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings, while revealing how she eventually came to love him.

In an emotional interview on JoyPrime, Maame Efua recounted how her father, who was in charge of the military hospital in Tamale, was nearly killed during the coup.

"My father couldn’t stop thanking God because he said they were about to shoot them, but someone spared their lives," she shared.

Despite the trauma her father went through, Maame Efua admitted that she eventually forgave Rawlings and grew fond of him.

"Funny enough, former President Rawlings was one of my favourite people. I somehow forgave him and grew to love him," she said.

She explained that forgiveness was easier because Rawlings had approached her father later on to apologise for the pain caused and offered him an opportunity to serve in government, which he declined. "It was easy to forgive him," she added.
