2 mins readVeteran actor Fred Amugi has revealed that he is an exceptional cook due to the training and guidance he received from his parents when he was a child.

During an interview with the media to talk about the Ghana Must Go stage play, written by celebrated playwright Latif Abubakar, the actor revealed that his mother used to assign him to cooking roles for specific weeks.

On other days, she would have him observe while she cooked, teaching him valuable skills.

His father on the other hand, told him, “What the girls can do, you should be able to do too,” a lesson he says has greatly influenced him.

Mr Amusgi said, due to this experience with his parents, he does a good job preparing okro stew, his favorite meal, not with the usual palm oil but with coconut oil, including every other Ghanaian dish.

He said he can also pound and turn fufu independently, showcasing his proficiency in traditional Ghanaian cuisine.

The play is set to premiere today, May 24–25, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The story revolves around a group of friends who, tired of life in the diaspora, return to Ghana to face an uncertain future and rediscover their roots.

Speaking on a separate matter. Mr Amugi urged creatives to correct all the wrongs as they have attained new appointments in Mahama's government.

“The complaints that they have giving before because people were not taking a second look at our theatre and our filmmaking, now that they are sitting there, what they used to complain about, this is the time to push and let it happen,” he said.
