The management of the Yendi Government Hospital in the Northern Region has defied a court order and summarily dismissed 91 casual staff.
They include pharmacists, laboratory technicians, orderlies, labourers and mortuary attendants.
A Tamale High Court placed an injunction on the management’s decision to dismiss them following the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice’s (CHRAJ) intervention.
But the hospital on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, defied the court order and sacked them when they reported to work.

Armed police personnel were seen at the hospital’s premises to maintain order.
Chairman of the Yendi government hospital Casual Staff Association, Ahmed Hardi told Citi News they had been unfairly treated.
According to him, some of the dismissed casual staff have served the hospital for 18 years.
Ahmed Hardi narrated that the Northern Regional CHRAJ Director, Stephen Azantilow filed a motion in the Tamale High Court when they petitioned the Commission over the hospital management’s decision to dismiss them.
He said in their petition; they complained about their four months unpaid salaries, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions and Second Tier pension contributions.
He explained the Casual Staff Association leadership exhausted all the hospital’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms and management wouldn’t rescind its decision, hence the petition to CHRAJ.
He called for government’s intervention to ensure their reinstatement.
