World Vision Ghana has pumped some US$380,000 into helping women in the Garu and Tempane District to boost their shea butter business.

The money has been spent to provide two modern equipment for 600 women at Kpipira, Gagbire and Woriyanga to extract improved shea butter.

Food Security Officer for Bawku West Cluster, Justice Tiigah told Adom News Reporter Kwame Kulenu the machines at Kpipira and Gagbire are already operational, while the one at Woriyanga is being installed.

He said out of the 600 women, 200 each are from each of the three communities, adding that the main focus of the project is to improve household income and food security in the region.

“The women are also supported with tricycles to transport their products to the market,” he said.

Of the 600 women, they have 2,685 children they are taking care of, so the support from World Vision goes to benefit all these children as well.

Justice Tiigah said World Vision collaborates with Business Advisory Centre (BAC) who also trains the women in how to use shea butter to make soap and pomade.

The women expressed their gratitude to World Vision for giving them modern machines to extract shea butter.

According to them, they used to employ grading stones to extract their shea butter and they were able to extract only one pan a day but with the help of the machines, they are now able to make more than 10 barrels a day.

They are therefore calling on the shea butter exporters and companies who use shea butter for various products to “come and buy from us because we are now producing in large quantity.”
