Renowned football administrator and former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey says he is worried at the lack of progress in the aftermath of the Anas exposé.
According to the bankroller of Division One side, Heart of Lions, government must provide a clear guideline regarding how it intends to reform or restructure the Ghana Football Association.
Speaking on Accra based radio station, Asempa FM, Randy said, he was unsure of what the grand plan of government is regarding the reformation of football in the country. Adding that no real progress has been made two months after the explosive documentary into the corrupt practices in Ghana’s football was aired by the ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team.

“I think that sometimes we discuss this issue with a lot of emotions. But as some point it is important to ask what next? What have we done as a nation after the exposé, nothing. It seems that we are marking time which is not the best. We need to gather around something and then decide how to move forward, Randy said.
For the umpteenth time Randy Abbey said he disagreed with government’s resolve to dissolve the Ghana Football Association, describing it as a rather radical approach. He reaffirmed his conviction that there are enough competent people to lead the GFA into a new era of success.
Currently there is a legal tussle between government and officials of the Ghana Football Association who have vowed to vehemently resist government’s attempt to dissolve the GFA because of the perceived widespread and institutionalized corruption within the Ghanaian game.
Last month, the A-G filed an ex- parte application for a ten-day injunction on all football activities in the country which also barred the GFA and its officials from carrying out any official duties within the stipulated time.
After the expiration of the 10 days, the A-G filed another application to extend the injunction and was granted. As we speak the premises of the GFA is under lock and key, after the police pronounced the premises of the FA as a crime scene.
Meanwhile, the FA is vehemently opposed to the attempt to put a new injunction on its activities and thus using all legal remedies to avert it.
Our sources say the GFA is not opposed to government helping in cleaning up what is widely regarded as a tainted association, but at the same time the FA is determined to fight for its rights and stop any attempts by government to set a bad precedent for the future.
