Volta NPP backs Freddie Blay to win chairmanship race

Ahead of the National Delegate’s Congress of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Koforidua, delegates, including party executives in the Volta Region, have thrown their weight behind the candidature of the acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay.

At a press conference led by the Volta Regional Chairman, Makafui Woanya in Hohoe, the executives said they were convinced Freddie Blay should be retained as the substantive Chairman based on his achievements while playing an interim role.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we wish to state that we have seen for ourselves and indeed, every well-meaning patriot can attest to the works of the candidate, Mr. Freddie Blay, then acting national chairman of the New Patriotic Party.”
“Mr. Freddie Blay proved to the then demoralized and hopeless patriots of our tradition that with determination and the can-do spirit, we could rock the boat safely to the shores; the result of which we now pride ourselves as the most popular political party in the country, having recaptured power from the National Democratic Congress with a landslide victory” he said.

He added that they cannot afford to be seen as ungrateful party members, and so they have decided to support the candidature of Freddie Blay, as an appreciation for his works in the party.

“Ladies and gentlemen, you need no reminder of the long held saying that “a nation that fails to honour its heroes is not worth dying for. To put it bluntly in the context of our gathering here, “A political party that fails to recognize the unflinching support and profound efforts of acting Chairman Blay and now aspiring national chairman Freddie Blay is not worth dying for.”

“The New Patriotic Party is not noted for ingratitude as we can tell, and this has always been good for our collective agenda. It is against this backdrop that the entire regional executives of the New Patriotic Party, Volta Region, wish to state without any shred of doubt that we give our absolute support to the candidature of Mr. Freddie Blay as next national chairman of the New Patriotic Party”.

Freddie Blay has as part of his campaign promise secured buses that would soon be given to all constituencies in the country. That has however been criticized as a vote-buying with some alleging corruption, as the Special Prosecutor has started investigating him,

Makafui Woanya, together with the rest of the executives in the Volta Region are therefore encouraging all delegates from the region to support Mr. Blay.

“We again by this same measure of support wish to call on all executives of the twenty-six constituencies to do same by voting massively for Freddie Blay come 6th – 7th July when we will converge on Koforidua, the Regional capital of the Eastern Region, for the national election”.
