“Thank you for containing me” – Captain Smart tells Media General management

Media personality Captain Godsbrain Blessed Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has today announced his departure from Onua TV after 2 years with Media General.

He revealed his resignation while presenting the Maakye show, where he noted that the management of Media General “contained him during his stay.

“Once again, let me thank the management of media general for containing me. My speed is always supersonic. It is always supersonic. I am a fixer. I fix. I make sure the dead will rise. I always make sure, that what is spoilt, the station that is dead and nothing can be done about it, that is when I bring it up. So thank you all Ghanaians. We have done enough. Someone should come and continue,” he said.

This suggests that management might have had some issues with the comments he made on the show.

It may not be far-fetched as recently, the National Media Commission (NMC) issued a final warning to Onua Radio/TV and Captain Smart over an inciteful broadcast.

In a press statement dated Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the NMC said that Captain Smart had directly insulted the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and other Commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as “beasts” during a recent broadcast.

The NMC further stated that Captain Smart had claimed that these officers embezzled monies meant for soldiers on peacekeeping operations, but had offered no evidence to support his claims.

The NMC described the broadcast as “dangerous” and “unprofessional.” It also noted that it had warned Onua Radio/TV about promoting violence against the state in December 2022, but that the station had not taken steps to address the issue.

The NMC gave Onua Radio/TV and Captain Smart until November 19, 2023, to:

– Withdraw the insults and apologize to the CDS and his commanders
– Apologize to the Ghanaian public for the use of vulgar language
– Put in measures to stop the dangerous behaviour of the station and improve the station’s capacity for regulatory compliance

Meanwhile, Captain Smart, who has admitted to not being content with disseminating information, wants to undertake more initiatives that will help change the country’s fortune.

“We have to save this country at all cost and it will be a bash at my back and a bar I cannot hold to survive if I cannot quit to save this country.

“I cannot always stay in my comfort zone. I cannot. Sitting on air, holding microphones, being mic’d is a comfort zone. I want bigger bigger and the biggest task, the great, greater, the greatest task, to prove to the world that once again, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs,” he stated.
