A renowned Sunyani-based private legal practitioner and a former High Commissioner, Dr. Sylvester Ankama, has been killed in an accident.

The renowned lawyer met his untimely death when he was knocked down by a car driven by a police officer.

According to the Brong Ahafo Regional Commander of the MTTD, Superintendent Stella Sedame, the police officer whose car knocked down the Lawyer, Sergeant Alfred Owusu Asare, was on his way to work when he knocked down the 83-year-old lawyer on Tuesday in front of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly.

Superintendent Sedame revealed to Citi News that the police officer rushed the lawyer to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital where he was admitted and later reported the incident at the Police Station. But the lawyer died in the morning of Wednesday, July 25, 2018. The body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The MTTD boss said Sergeant Alfred Owusu Asare was detained and his statement taken, whiles investigations have commenced into the incident.

The late Lawyer Dr. Sylvester Ankama was a senior practitioner at the Ebenezer Legal Services.

He was a onetime Ghana’s High Commissioner to India during the Dr. Limann administration.

He was the author of “The Westminster Model in Africa and a search for African Alternative” and was also a Rev. Minister at the Bethel Prayer Ministry.

Over 1,200 die in motor crashes since January 2018

More than 1,200 people have died in road crashes in Ghana between January and June 2018. The fatal accidents involved over 11,000 vehicles.

While the Eastern Region came tops with 224 deaths, the Upper West Region had the least number of deaths, 36.
