Members of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) of the Ghana Water Company Limited- GWCL in the Ashanti Region, have called for the immediate dismissal of their Board Chairman, Afenyo Markin and 3rd Deputy Managing Director of the Company.

The workers expressed this by displaying banners at entrances of the company in Kumasi, calling for the dismissal of the two officers.

It is not clear why the members are embarking on such a protest. They have declined comment on the matter saying their national executives are mandated to speak on it.
Some of the offices of the GWCL in the Ashanti Region, red bands are tied at the main entrance and banners with inscriptions such as ‘Save Ghana Water Company Limited operations’ ‘Ghana Water Company Limited workers say Board Chairman must go’. ‘No to third deputy MD operations’ ‘Chop chop must stop now’ at the entrance of the company.

According to a Citi FM reporter, “This banner is replicated in most of the offices of the company like the Kumasi East and the regional office of the company visited. Sources say it is a nationwide protest against the third Deputy MD of the company and the Board Chairman of the GWCL,”

Meanwhile, some workers of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) similarly called for the dismissal of their Board Chairman.

While the GPHA called for the dismissal of their Board Chair, Peter Mac Manu over allegations of corruption, workers of COCOBOD said Hackman Owusu Agyemang, was usurping the authority of the Chief Executive.
