Pastor backs calls for churches to be taxed

The Deputy National Overseer of the House of Faith Ministries, Rev. Emmanuel Kwame Darkwah, has backed calls on government to tax churches in the country.

According to Rev. Kwame Darkwah, there is nothing wrong if the government taxes some churches who are into profit making and not propagating the gospel.

Rev. Darkwah noted that just as business entities pay taxes to government these churches must do same.

Rev. Darkwah said some churches can be seen as doing business and so they must not be spared because the government needs taxes to develop the country.

He added that the front line churches should not be compelled to pay taxes because they are contributing to the growth of the country by putting up schools, hospitals among others.

He said it would be unfair if these churches are asked to pay taxes looking at their contributions in the country over the years.

Rev. Darkwah was speaking at this year’s National Youth Camp Meeting of the House of Faith Ministries in Sunyani.

This year’s programme was under the theme: ” Becoming an Example in Your Generation ” taken from 1 Timothy 4:12, was attended by over 900 youth from across the country.

President of the Youth Branch of the House of Faith Ministries, Enock Kwame Oduro Sarpong, urged the youth of the church to remain focused in order not to jeopardize their future.

Mr. Sarpong noted with worry that the youth who are always described as the future leaders are going wayward, and called for a collective effort in putting the youth on the right track.

He urged them not to indulge in drug abuse, alcoholism and other social vices that could ruin their future.

He noted that if the youth draw closer to God, social vices may reduce in the country.
