Ace Broadcaster, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), has condemned the attack on the Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Akwasi Addai Odike.
On Monday, August 22, 2022, the office of Mr Odike in the Ashanti Region was ransacked and vandalised by some unknown persons.
Although the attack was launched after he criticised chiefs in Manhyia for failing to end illegal mining in the area, there is no evidence that links the attack to the comments he made.
Reacting to these events, Mr Darkwah noted that though the UPP flag bearer was right in voicing out his grievances he did not use the right mode in communicating to the chiefs. And that according to KKD was the point where Odike erred.
“He’s right to speak about ‘galamsey.’ Certain messages need aggression but we must know the differences between our servants and our elders. No matter what a chief does, you don’t insult them in public.
“And I think the problem with Odike is that his heart was full of anger because he had seen how our water bodies were being destroyed but whiles he may have the power to speak in that manner to the servants we have elevated (i.e politicians in government) we cannot speak to chiefs and elders in that manner,†he said.
Nonetheless, he said the attack was unwarranted. “It’s totally wrong,†he stressed.
Odike’s response to the attack
Following the attack, Mr Odike has disclosed that he feels threatened. However, he refused to apologise to the chiefs whom he suspects are behind his attack.
“People who are after my life, how can I apologise to them? They want to kill me so why should I go on my knees and beg them? That portion is past and gone. No reconciliation. The battle lines have been drawn. I have to take good care of myself and see how the Police will assist me in terms of security,†he said.
“Physically, yes. I am traumatised. But God is with me,†he added.
Mr Odike’s comments incurred the wrath of the Chiefs who have performed rituals to banish him from Manhyia.
