NSMQ2018: PRESEC, Mfantsipim and KNUST SHS face off in quarter finals

The first contest of the one-eighth stage of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz ended on Monday, June 18 with PRESEC, Mfantsipim and KNUST SHS qualifying for the quarter final stage.

KNUST SHS sealed their qualification just by a point ahead of their closest contender Sunyani SHS.

PRESEC Legon won the first stage with 53 points, beating Yaa Asantewaa Girls SHS who scored 22 points.

Mfantsipim School beat their competitors Nandom SHS and Bolgatanga Girls SHS with a whooping 60 points, while the two trailed with 13 and 3 points respectively.

The one-eighth stage of the NSMQ 2018 spans from June 18 to June 27, 2018 with each contest having a seeded school from last year’s competition against two schools from the preliminaries.

The winners of the 27 contests will then progress to the quarter-finals where they gain automatic qualification to the 2019 edition of the compettion.

Thus, for the first quarter final contest which takes place on Thursday, June 28, 2018, PRESEC Legon will clash with archrivals, Mfantsipim School and KNUST SHS.

This contest is regarded as one between the Greater Accra, Central and Ashanti Regions of Ghana.

At the quarterfinal stage, each point of the competing schools will be worth Five Ghana cedis (GHS 5) and this will be paid out to each of the three competitors and their teacher.

The Quarter Finals stage spans from June 28th- June 30, and Semi-Finals on July 2, 2018.
The Grand Finale of the NSMQ 2018 will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
