The former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin are yet to write to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to officially declare their intent of contesting the party’s flagbearership race.

General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who disclosed this to Akwasi Nsiah on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Friday, said though the confirmation of intent to contest the flagbearership race has been communicated to all party faithful, there is no law backing it.

The decision by the party, he noted, is purely administrative.

He said so far seven aspirants have written to officially declare the intention to contest the flagbearership race which is scheduled to take place on December 7, 2018 at a yet to decides location.

Among those who have declared their intent to contest the flagbearership race include Sylvester Mensah, Stephen Atubiga (the poor boy from Binduri), Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah and Prof. Joshua Alabi.

Mr. Nketiah popularly known in the political circles as ‘General Mosquito’ recently gave an update of the party’s preparation towards its internal elections and admonished all who who will be aspiring to contest the flagbearership race to officially write to his office to declare their intent.

He also gave timelines as to how the elections would be held and cautioned all aspiring candidates to be moderate in their spending power.

Explaining the rationale behind the caution, Mr. Nketiah said times are hard and would therefore be wise for the aspiring candidates to spend widely on their campaigns.

“Wholesale advertisement is more suitable for national contest. So the wise application of resources will be in the candidates own interest”, he noted.
