A Ghanaian musician with two albums to his credit, David Kobina Afriyie has been arrested for impersonating members of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation’s (GHAMRO) taskforce to extort monies from colleague musicians.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Friday, GHAMRO’s Operations Coordinator, Yaw Osbourne said the suspect used his name and that of members of the GHAMRO licensing department to con, harass and extort monies from fellow musicians.

He added that, GHAMRO had earlier issued a stern warning to Mr Afriyie after series of complaints by some musicians but the suspect failed to hasten.

Mr Afriyie was also intercepted in an audio urging one policeman to strike a deal with him concerning one of his victims locked up in a police station.

“He moves from pubs to clubs and other recreational centres to collect monies in the name of GHAMRO and MUSIGA. He has created his ID Cards and since most Ghanaians don’t rectify he couldn’t be caught. We warned him several times but he said we had no evidence against him so we have finally caught him…” he told Andy Dosty.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of GHAMRO and host of “U sey Wetin” on Hitz FM, Prince Tsegah said he was arrested and bailed on Thursday after spending 48 hours in Anyaa Police Station.

“He is doomed. He is liable to be jailed. He has 2 albums to his credit according to our books…” Prince said.
