Kotoko faces demotion from Ghana’s elite division should they fail to pay Esperance an amount of $30,000.
The Porcupine Warriors have been ordered by the World Football governing body to pay the said amount to the Tunisia Club over the transfer of former player Emmanuel Clottey.
Esperance reported Kotoko to FIFA after the Ghanaian side refused to comply with negotiation between the two Clubs when Clottey was transferred to Kotoko in 2015.
The North Africa side who had previously done business with Kotoko after securing the transfer of former defender Harrison Afful decided to release Clottey to Kotoko before transaction is done, an agreement which was faulted by the Reds.
In return Esperance have also refused to pay Kotoko an amount of $150,000 for the transfer of midfielder Kwame Bonsu, in excess the Ghanaian giants have a remaining $30,000 to settle the reigning CAF Champions League holders.
“Kotoko have received a letter from FIFA which orders them to pay us $180,000 for the wrongful signing of Emmanuel Clottey,†Esperance vice President Walid Arem told Nhyira FM
“We don’t owe them but rather they owe us $30,000 and they have to settle us before the date stated in the letter from FIFAâ€
“We bought Kwame Bonsu for $150,000 and they also owe us $180,000. We need the money badly, so we’re waiting for it.â€
Kotoko had initially reported Esperance to FIFA for refusing to pay the transfer fee of Kwame Bonsu but a thorough explanation on the part of the Blood and Golds saw FIFA turn the complaint in favor of the Tunisian side.
The Ghanaian powerhouse have up until April 6 to settle the remaining $30,000 or face demotion to Ghana’s second-tier League.
