Minister for Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, is currently at the Kantamanto Market which was razed down by fire on Tuesday morning, November 29.

The Minister, together with officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation are at the scene to assess the extent of damage.

It is reported that over 200 shops at the Kantamanto market in Accra have been burnt to ashes.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Police Service are at the scene working to douse the flames.

The Police have cordoned off the affected area to enable the fire officers carry out their duty without any obstructions.

The security officers are also preventing any possible looting.

It is unknown the extent of the casualties, but it is projected that items worth over millions of cedis have been destroyed.
No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fire outbreak.

For many Ghanaians, the unfortunate incident will have an adverse effect on how they celebrate Christmas in the coming weeks.
