Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, have announced their separation after 27 years of marriage, as reported by US media.
According to the celebrity magazine People, the Australian couple expressed their gratitude for sharing nearly three decades together and explained that their journey was now evolving in a way that led them to separate in pursuit of their individual growth.
Jackman and Furness initially crossed paths on the set of the TV show Correlli in 1995.
At the time, Furness was an established actress, while Jackman had recently graduated from drama school. They exchanged wedding vows in April 1996 and subsequently adopted two children, now aged 23 and 18.
In their statement to People, the couple emphasized that their family remained their top priority.
They expressed their appreciation for the understanding and privacy of their fans and admirers as their family navigated this significant transition.
Jackman, renowned for his portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise and his roles in The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables, had frequently shared his love for Furness on social media.
On their 27th wedding anniversary in April, he expressed his deep affection for her and their enduring bond.
The couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 2021, with Jackman describing their marriage as “natural as breathing.” They were last seen together in July at the Wimbledon tennis championships in London, where they watched Carlos Alcaraz compete against Novak Djokovic.
In April, Jackman informed his fans via social media that he had received a clean bill of health after undergoing tests for skin cancer.
This followed his first skin cancer removal in 2013 and several subsequent procedures to address the issue.
