FIFA to rescue Black Princesses as World Cup looms

World Football governing body FIFA, will hold meetings with Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association Alex Asante, as they seek to facilitate the participation of Ghana’s female U-20 side for the upcoming World Cup in France.

Alex Asante has been in charge of International competitions, International relations and Protocol since the FA’s Secretariat saw restructuring four years ago.

The meeting has become necessary due to Government’s decision to place an interim injunction on all football and football related activities involving Ghana.

This was in response to widespread corruption in football in Ghana which was uncovered following the airing of a documentary by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The situation has also resulted in the 90-day suspension of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi by FIFA from all football related activities.

It also pushed Kwesi Nyantakyi to resign from his position head of the GFA.

Pre-World Cup preparations of the Princesses have been affected as a result, this includes an invitation to participate in an invitational in China.

Ghana has been placed in Group A and will open the tournament against hosts France in a match slated for the Stade de la Rabine Vannes.

The 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will run from 5-24 August.
