Family of murdered businesswoman prevented from attacking suspects

The timely intervention of police officers prevented a group of enraged family members from physically assaulting the prime suspect and an alleged accomplice in the case of the 35-year-old businesswoman who was tragically killed by her house help at her residence in Sokoban, Kumasi.

Clearly agitated, the family members attempted to attack the suspects as they were leaving the court premises after their initial appearance. Some even resorted to throwing stones at the police vehicle carrying the suspects, and they chased the vehicle in an attempt to reach the suspects.

The prime suspect, 22-year-old Allister John, had confessed to the alleged murder during his first court appearance before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Monday, September 18, 2023. Another individual suspected of being an accomplice was also in custody.

The court proceedings revealed that this gruesome act was the result of a conspiracy involving five individuals, including the two suspects currently in custody.

The prosecution has identified three additional suspects – Collins, Biggie, and Christian Obu – who are currently evading capture, and the police are actively pursuing their apprehension.

During their second appearance before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday, October 3rd, the prosecution disclosed that the autopsy report indicated the victim’s death was unnatural, strongly suggesting that she had been killed by another person.

Consequently, the prosecution requested that the court remand the suspects once again to allow for further investigations. The court granted this request, and the suspects are scheduled to appear before the court once more on October 17, 2023.
