Reports suggest that the Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, wanted Mason Greenwood to come back to the club.
The club said on Monday afternoon that the forward will be leaving soon and has already played his final game for the team.
This happened after looking into what Greenwood did for six months when the charges for attempted rape and domestic assault were dropped in February.
United talked extensively with Greenwood and concluded that, based on their own investigation, he did not do the things he was accused of.
However, Greenwood cannot play for the club anymore because they think it is better for him to start his career again somewhere else.
However, United’s decision was made after they had already made plans for Greenwood to join again.
Just two weeks ago, important people at the club were told that Greenwood would be coming back to the first team.
Ten Hag reportedly agreed with the decision and believed that he could benefit from having a skilled striker like Greenwood on his team.
But people were angry at United when they learned that they wanted to bring the striker back.
United wants to loan Greenwood to another team, but they will also consider offers to sell him permanently.
The club says Greenwood won’t play for them anymore, even if he goes on loan.
Greenwood’s current agreement ends in 2025.
