The Ashaiman Circuit Court presided over by His honour Gabriel Marte-Teye has slapped eight individuals and two owners of manufacturing companies in Kpone Katamanso Municipality with a fine of GH¢ 16,100 for flouting environmental and sanitation offenses.

The convicts pleaded guilty and the court accordingly charged under Public Health Act 2012 Act 851and Criminal Code 1960 according to MyNewsGh.com’s court reporter.

The convicts are Selassie Kluvetsey, Suleiman Kassim, Godslove Ametepey, Gabriel Sedajor, Hajia Adisa and Robert Bugbadey.

The rest are Managing Director of Apollo Steal Company, Proprietor of Dolly Industries, Borsheba Amoako(driver), Joseph Siaw Addo, and Henry Ofori Kumah.

For their offense, Borsheba Amoako, who is the driver was charged for washing his vehicle on the road despite several warnings from the Sanitation Department of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly while the Proprietor of Dolly Industries and MD of Apollo Steal were charged for creating unsanitary conditions in their premises.

The other convicts were charged for dumping refuse at unauthorized places in the Ashaiman Municipality.

With the exception of the MD of Apollo Steal and the Proprietor of Dolly Industries who were fined GH¢2,700, the rest were fined GH¢ 1,200 each.

Henry Ofori Kumah could not pay his fine and has since been in Ashaiman police.

Speaking to Oman FM, Ashaiman Municipal Sanitation Prosecutor Kartey George stated that his outfit will continue to arrest residents who flout sanitation and environmental laws and prosecute them since they are recalcitrant and lawless.

He said the assembly had sensitized them enough to adhere to the laws and so if they are not compliant then the only way out is to prosecute them.
