Traders along the Ashaiman traffic light continue to sell on the streets despite a directive by the Municipal Assembly stopping them.
The directive followed an accident which claimed one life and left several others injured.
On Thursday, July 27 2018, the driver of a Kia Rhino run into some traders and pedestrians on pavements at the Ashaiman market.

Following the accident, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly gave a directive to traders to vacate the pavements, but these traders have failed to adhere to the directive.

A 30-member taskforce has been constituted to ensure traders do not sell on the pavements and streets and in turn put their lives in danger.
But when TV3 News visited the area, traders were seen going about their business as usual along the pavements.
Some traders who spoke to the news team, said they have no other alternative than to sell on the pavements despite the risk involved.
“Some of them, If they are selling in the market, they do not buy, so this is the place they can sell the items,†a trader told TV3’s Natalie Fort.
Public Relations Officer of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Kwasi Adu Gyamfi noted that the taskforce warned the traders to vacate the pavement or face the law.
“All those people are not from Ashaiman, about 80% of them are from Accra and other areas to come and sell here and create a nuisance for us. From tomorrow, anybody who will be arrested will be prosecuted,†Mr. Adu Gyamfi said.
