The former Black Stars captain, in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealed that he no longer wishes to be involved in partisan politics, focusing instead on humanitarian work through his foundation.

Gyan, who holds the title of Ghana's all-time leading goalscorer, explained that his political involvement has not been fair to the youth of the country. He expressed a desire to redirect his energy towards empowering young people in Ghana, independent of any political party.“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on the December 7 elections. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you,” Gyan shared in his statement.The 38-year-old football legend had been active in the political scene earlier this year.

In February 2024, Gyan made headlines after being appointed as the chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for the NPP's presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. His presence was notable at several campaign events, including a walk in Akropong, Eastern Region, with the vice president last month.

However, Gyan has since re-evaluated his position, acknowledging that his actions might have undermined his broader responsibility to the youth. By distancing himself from partisan activities, Gyan hopes to contribute positively to society through his charitable organization, the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, which aims to uplift and support Ghanaian youth.

The former footballer also extended his well-wishes to all political parties ahead of Ghana’s upcoming general elections in December, emphasizing the importance of peace during the process.<img src="
