Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to extend his tenure with the club for an additional three years, securing his stay until 2027.
The new deal, set to be officially announced before Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham, extends the Spaniard’s current contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season.
Arteta, who took over from Unai Emery in December 2019, has been instrumental in revitalizing Arsenal’s fortunes. Appointed after serving as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Arteta quickly made his mark, leading the Gunners to FA Cup victory in the 2019-2020 season, his first major silverware as a manager.
Over the past two seasons, Arsenal has come close to Premier League glory, finishing as runners-up to Manchester City. The 42-year-old manager has been working to end Arsenal’s title drought, with the club last winning the Premier League in 2003-04.
Despite missing out on the league title, Arteta’s progress has been clear, and the club’s hierarchy appears confident that he is the right man to guide Arsenal forward. Arteta’s extension ensures continuity as he continues his pursuit of a first top-flight title as a manager.
This season, Arsenal is off to a solid start, sitting in fourth place after three games. They began with victories against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa before being held to a draw by Brighton. The team’s strong performances in recent campaigns have raised hopes that Arteta can lead Arsenal to new heights.
As a former player, Arteta’s connection with Arsenal runs deep. He made 150 appearances for the Gunners during his playing career and captained the side, further solidifying his place within the club’s history. His experience on and off the pitch has shaped his managerial approach, and the new contract reflects Arsenal’s long-term faith in his vision for the club.
With the contract extension now in place, attention will turn to Sunday’s derby, where Arteta will look to continue Arsenal’s positive start to the season and build momentum for the campaign ahead.
