Barcelona is currently valuing other players as they announce withdrawal from the pursuit of Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams.
The Spain forward of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams, was on the radar of the current La Liga champions last summer; however, the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has revealed that his side is no longer interested in Inaki Williams' brother.
He said they have moved on.
“We valued Nico as a potential signing last summer with Dani Olmo, but right now I think the club is valuing other players,” Joan Laporta said, as quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Also, he revealed that the club is going to see some reshuffles:
“There will be changes in our squad this summer. Our rivals will also strengthen because they have seen that our team is the best right now.”
Barcelona was considering a swoop for Nico Williams last summer following the forward's stellar performance for his club, Athletic, and his national team, Spain.
During the Euro 2024, Nico won Man of the Match in Athletic's clash with Italy, showcasing his speed, dribbling, and creativity. Also, in the 2023/24 season, Williams scored 8 goals and 19 assists in 37 appearances for Athletic Bilbao.
His flawless passing accuracy, ability to create chances, and goal-scoring ability made him one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe.
Top clubs such as PSG, Arsenal, and Chelsea, among others, were interested in signing him.
Williams also had a release clause of €58 million, which made him an attractive target.
Amid all these links, he opted to stay at his club and signed a contract extension.
