Erik ten Hag has acknowledged that Manchester United is making progress in their search for a new striker. However, he refrained from commenting on any potential move for PSG's Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe is reportedly available for transfer after expressing his decision not to renew his contract at Parc des Princes, making a move away from PSG likely before his anticipated free transfer to Real Madrid in 2024. Al Hilal is said to have linked to a potential £259 million deal for the player.
With Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Manchester United at the end of 2022 and Wout Weghorst's failure to meet expectations, the club is in need of a striker.
Although they have successfully recruited Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan, the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford has not materialized yet, with rumored rival interest from PSG.
"We make progress, yeah," Ten Hag said when asked about United's attempt to land a forward. "But you know how it works - when we have him, we will tell you directly.
"The only thing I can say is we do everything that's in our power to get that done. If it was up to me, yeah, as soon as possible. The earlier the better because we have to integrate him in the team, the way of play.
"In an ideal situation, he was already here but you do not always get ideal situations as a manager and you have to deal with the situation."
When asked if he could be interested in Mbappe, he answered: "We never speak about players who are under contract in other clubs."
