Motsepe, ranked as Africa’s ninth richest person, will continue leading the continent’s football governing body for another four years. He first assumed the role in 2021, making history as CAF’s first English-speaking president. He took over from Ahmad Ahmad, who was removed from office in 2020 due to financial misconduct.

During Motsepe’s tenure, African football has seen significant financial improvements. The prize money for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) increased by over 40% to $7 million, and both the men's and women's CAF Champions League rewards were also raised.

Additionally, he played a key role in launching the African Football League (AFL), originally planned to feature 24 teams with a $100 million budget. However, the competition started with just eight teams, and South African club Mamelodi Sundowns won the inaugural edition in 2023.
