A car crash during the derby match between Espanyol and Barcelona has left thirteen people injured.
A crowd of fans had gathered outside the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà on Thursday, May 15, when a car ran into them while they stood cheering and waiting for the arrival of their team's buses.
Ten ambulances were sent to the scene. The most severe injury reported was a broken leg.
According to the police in Barcelona, no fatalities were recorded, but four people who needed medical attention were taken to the hospital.
Fortunately, none of the affected people who were sent to the hospital, according to the police, are in a serious condition.
The crash delayed the match for several minutes in the initial stages of the game while the referee was being informed by the police.
The police revealed that the incident did not present any danger to the crowd inside the stadium.
The driver of the car was arrested on charges of suspicion of dangerous driving and causing injury.
Per videos making waves on social media, the car had stopped between some bins outside the stadium and was surrounded by fans until it later sped into the crowd.
"It was an accident, some people were injured, but not seriously. There are no major incidents to report," Salvador Illa, the president of the Government of Catalonia, who was present at the match, told Spanish TV channel Movistar Plus.
