2 mins readNational Sports College (NSC) and the National Sports Authority are set to launch a Certificate Course in Sports Psychology to enhance athletes' performance, mental resilience, and overall well-being.

Scheduled to take place from March 23 to 26, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, the program will feature expert facilitators from Germany and the University of Education, Winneba.

Speaking to GNA Sports, NSC Director Bawah Fuseini emphasized that this initiative marks a new chapter in training athletes, coaches, and other sports professionals in the crucial field of sports psychology.

He noted that despite psychology being a recognized branch of science, it has been largely overlooked in Ghana's sports sector.

The course, he added, aims to instill self-belief and confidence among sportsmen and women, filling a long-standing gap in their professional development.

“We are trying to do this one in Accra and the next one will be done at Winneba. This is a new course we are introducing and so far, the reception has been massive.

Sports personalities, coaches, officials and athletes are eligible to take part because these people are mostly traumatized either by not being able to win medals or probably injuries could affect their career,” he said.

The Director announced that Dr. Elvis Hagan Junior from Germany and Dr. Medina from the University of Education would serve as the primary facilitators for the course.

Founded in 1984, the National Sports College operates under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, focusing on the training and professional development of technical personnel within the sports industry.
