1 min readFormer Minister of Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has finally been given a role in President John Dramani Mahama’s second term.

The former Odododiodio MP has been appointed as the National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

Many expected him to return as Sports Minister, but instead, President Mahama chose Kofi Adams for the role. While no official reason was given, some believe it was due to the need for regional balance and parliamentary considerations.

DRIP was started under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government to improve roads across Ghana. The program provides local government bodies with the tools and resources needed for road construction and maintenance.

Meanwhile, following the challenges the Black Stars faced leading up to their not qualifying for the AFCON in twenty (20) years.

For the first time people and groups expressed their support for Nii Lante Vanderpuye to be reappointed as Sports Minister by the current President when he started naming his Ministers.

Boxing promoter Alex Ntiamoah publicly called on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint Vanderpuye, citing his expertise and commitment to transparency and accountability in sports.

Many fans and members of the sporting community also voiced their support, hoping that Vanderpuye's strong stance on issues like the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would bring positive changes
