1 min readBarcelona president Joan Laporta has announced the club's plans to give young prodigy Lamine Yamal "special treatment" as talks are underway for a long-term contract with the 17-year-old forward.

“It’s been discussed, but it’s not signed. Lamine’s a great player, an extraordinary person, and is already very mature,” Laporta told TV3 when asked for an update on negotiations to prolong the forward’s contract.

"He’s grown up here, he’s Catalan, and he’s a Barça fan. He’s happy in Barcelona and is destined to be the best player in the world," he added.

Yamal's current deal with Barça would expire in 2026, with the club anticipating penning a long-term contract with him when he turns 18 in July.

Discussions between both parties, according to Laporta, look promising so far emphasizing that “There are good feelings with his representatives and with his family. His agent, [Jorge] Mendes, advises him well. It will end well."
