Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has rejected demands to immediately release the budget allocated for the Black Stars’ upcoming games against Chad and Madagascar.
Amid growing concerns about transparency in the sports sector, there have been increasing calls for the government to reveal how much is being spent on the national football team.
However, in an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, the minister said releasing the budget now would be inappropriate.
“You will know it when the time comes. I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National Team ceased playing? We have the next assignment in September; we have matches that we’re going to play. And we will surely make it public,” he said.
Adams clarified that the current budget remains a working draft, and releasing it prematurely could lead to unnecessary speculation and misinterpretation.
“It will be unfair to make a draft budget public, I’m not hiding it,” he emphasized.
He assured Ghanaians that the full details of the budget will be made public after all national team activities have concluded.
The minister also promised that the budget for the Black Stars’ upcoming matches will be presented on time, without any delays.
“There’s no way I’m going to allow the Ghana Football Association to delay in presentation of a budget for the September round of matches,” he affirmed.
