Ghanaian forwards Inaki Williams and Abdul Mumin have bagged nominations for the 2024/25 La Liga African Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Williams' nomination this year, along with Abdul's nomination, raises questions about the player's ability to defend the award he won last season, following his stellar performance for Bilbao.
He scored twelve goals for his team last season. This season, he has played a pivotal role in the club's position and pursuit of UEFA Champions League qualification. Bilbao currently ranks fourth on the league table with 64 points.
He has also scored six goals and given six assists in La Liga, playing a crucial role in Bilbao’s push for a Champions League spot.
He also played a key role in helping the team reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Central defender Mumin on the other hand, had an outstanding season with his club Rayo Vallecano before a knee injury sidelined him.
Mumin scored two goals in 24 league appearances, provided one assist, and contributed to six clean sheets which earned him the player of the Month award earlier in the season.
Inaki and Mumin make up 20 nominees from 13 African countries who are selected by fan voting from Sub-Saharan Africa and assessed by a panel of 25 African sports journalists.
Other contenders for the award include Reinildo Mandava and Flavien Enzo Boyomo. Voting closes on 14 May, with the winner set to be announced on 25 May, Africa Day.
