According to sources, the club's management team, led by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, have decided to keep Maresca till summer next season to make a judgment on his future.

They do not want to make a decision based on his performance this season.

Chelsea currently ranks fifth on the Premier League table, with just two rounds left in the Champions League but they are only ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference, with matches at home to Manchester United and away at seventh-placed Nottingham Forest to come.

The qualification of the club for the Champions League would depend on the team's performance in the upcoming match in the Europa Conference League final against Real Betis on May 28 and their remaining Premier League matches.
