Us based Chinese, "Richard Chao" has stated that boxing is improving in Ghana but there is room for further development.
Being a sports agent and a friend of Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports, Richard Chao commended the president’s son for his efforts in promoting boxing, particularly at the grassroots level.
“I think giving back to the community, giving back to the next generation is really important. I think the youth is the future of sports.”
"There are lots of opportunities. I think obviously there is so much to grow. There is so much to learn. I have seen improvement. He should keep it up. Every year, there is room to grow. I really, really love the work he is doing for the youth. For the sport of boxing," the sports agent indicated.
The University of Ghana Sports Stadium, also known as Legon Sports Stadium, hosted one of the biggest boxing spectacles in recent Ghanaian history.
The event was co-promoted by Matchroom Boxing, Legacy Rise Sports, and 258BXG, marking Matchroom’s first-ever boxing event in Africa and a landmark moment for the sport on the continent.
The show was headlined by a high-profile light-heavyweight clash between British fighters Craig “Spider” Richards and Dan “Super” Azeez, with Richards winning by a dramatic knockout in the 12th round. The bout was broadcast live worldwide on DAZN, adding global exposure to the event.
Alongside international names, the card featured several Ghanaian prospects and local attractions, including the much-talked-about bout between Freezy Macbones and “Worldwide”. Other domestic talents like Theophilus Allotey and other rising boxers also featured on the undercard, showcasing Ghana’s growing pool of boxing talent.
The capacity crowd enjoyed an electrifying atmosphere, blending world-class boxing with cultural celebration. The event was seen as a major move toward reviving and elevating the sport of boxing in Ghana, giving local fighters international exposure and attracting fans from across the country.
Tickets and broadcasting rights were widely covered, with local broadcasters securing rights and the global stream on DAZN ensuring fans around the world could watch the historic card.
In all, the Legon Sports Stadium show was a turning point for Ghanaian boxing, blending international competition with local flair and putting Ghana firmly on the global boxing map.
