2 mins readMember of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Rawlings, has denounced the brazen daylight robbery that occurred on Saturday, November 2, at the Adabraka Market.During the incident, four masked men armed with firearms attacked an individual in a red Toyota Corolla, making off with significant amounts of cash.
Local residents are still reeling from the shock, particularly after the robbers fired multiple gunshots into the air to disperse the crowd. The assailants forcefully entered the Toyota, seizing large sacks of money stored inside the vehicle. Within moments, they loaded the bags into their getaway car and fled the scene, continuing to fire shots to deter onlookers.
This robbery echoes a similar incident that took place on Wednesday, August 24, 2023, when another audacious armed robbery occurred in the same area. After visiting the crime scene, the MP expressed her concern over the prevalence of firearms in the hands of individuals who are instilling fear and panic among residents, particularly with general elections approaching.
this is the
second time within the last four months something of this nature has happened, and it’s very worrying because, first of all, how are people having access to these types of weapons and having the courage to do this in the middle of the city? We have elections in less than 36 days, so it raises concerns about the safety of constituents," she noted.
She further called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministries of Interior and National Security to protect citizens as the elections approach.“I have engaged the police as I got here, but I believe this is something that has to be investigated at the highest level.
It is not just about the police but also about the Minister of Interior and the Ministry of National Security because if you are looking at the types of weapons these individuals are carrying, it raises questions about the use of certain types of weapons in the system that are not legal. She is, however, assuring residents to remain resolute as measures will be taken to minimise the growing menace.
“I intend to certainly pursue this because I am a Deputy Ranking Member on the Select Committee on Security and Intelligence, so I am going to use my position to see how we can address it," she stated.Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the gang, assuring the general public that the perpetrators of the incident will be brought to book.
