MTN Ghana has assured its Mobile Money (MoMo) customers that their funds remain safe, despite a cybersecurity breach reported by the broader MTN Group.
In a statement to customers, MTN Ghana stressed that “no mobile money wallet has been compromised” and urged the public to “disregard any claims suggesting otherwise.”
This follows confirmation from the MTN Group of a cybersecurity incident currently under investigation. Though still at an early stage, preliminary assessments suggest that personal data belonging to about 5,700 MTN Ghana customers may have been affected.
However, the full extent of the breach has not yet been determined.
In response, the MTN Group has brought in top-tier cybersecurity experts and launched a forensic investigation. The company noted the process is being carried out “in accordance with the company’s established security protocols to ensure system integrity and protect customer information.”
MTN Ghana is also encouraging customers to stay alert and protect themselves from potential scams. The company advises customers not to share personal security credentials such as PINs or OTPs and to avoid clicking on suspicious links or entertaining unsolicited calls.
As investigations continue, MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to protecting customer data and providing timely updates on the situation.
