Ghanaian actress Christiana Awuni has publicly criticized Portia Asare for blaming the decline of the Kumawood film industry on spiritual sabotage or ‘juju.’Awuni contends that while personal disputes might sometimes involve such practices, they are not a major factor in the industry’s downturn.
Awuni is concerned that Portia’s statements could further harm Kumawood’s fragile reputation, potentially alienating audiences and worsening the industry's struggles. In a video shared on Instagram by MariGyata, Awuni, speaking in Twi, suggested that Portia’s tendency to keep to herself might have shaped her views.
“Portia prefers to stay away from others, so I’m unsure what has led her to make such claims. Her attitude seems to contribute to the very issues she’s talking about,” Awuni said. She contrasted Portia’s behavior with other actresses like Nana Ama McBrown and Vivian Jill, who she described as more approachable and supportive.
Awuni warned that spreading such negative sentiments could have serious repercussions for Kumawood’s future. She highlighted that Portia’s remarks about internal conflicts and spiritual sabotage, made during an interview with Ahodwo TV, do not align with the views of other industry members, who believe that the industry’s decline is due to deeper issues than mere personal rivalries.
