Veteran gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has been seen performing publicly for the first time in months, signaling a notable improvement in his health condition.
A video circulating on TikTok shows the ailing singer seated and singing along as his long-time collaborator Maame Tiwaa led the Asomafo band during a church service.
Despite still recovering from a stroke, Yaw Sarpong was able to join in parts of the performance, including renditions of his classic hit Wo Haw Ne Sen.
The footage, which has gained traction online, marks a rare public sighting of the gospel icon and has drawn positive reactions from fans who expressed relief and joy over his progress.
Yaw Sarpong’s health challenges became public knowledge in 2024 when fellow gospel singer Diana Asamoah, his family, and his manager confirmed in separate interviews that he had suffered a serious stroke. The illness left him bedridden and unable to carry on with musical activities.
His condition also led to financial difficulties, prompting his family to appeal for public support. Their request caught the attention of then-vice president and NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who visited the musician at home in the Ashanti Region and pledged to cover his medical expenses.
Shortly after Bawumia’s gesture, a woman claiming to be Yaw Sarpong’s wife, Maame Pinamang, accused him of infidelity and alleged that she had been denied access to him.
The claims, aired during a radio interview on Oyerepa FM, sparked public debate. Yaw Sarpong later denied the accusations, stating that he had been divorced from Pinamang for two decades.
Following that controversy, the musician remained out of the public eye—until his recent church appearance, which many now see as a hopeful sign of recovery.
Below is the video of Yaw Sarpong performing with his band at a church event:
