Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has explained that he has resigned as chairman of Ghana Beach Soccer, but hasn't severed ties with them.
The move he said is to avoid conflict of interest.
“I have not stopped Ghana Beach Soccer, but I am not the chairman again because I cannot be the NSA boss at the same time. It’s to prevent conflict of interest,” he stated during an appearance on Accra FM's Sports Nite Show,
Under Ankrah's leadership beach soccer saw an andvancement as Ghana’s team, the Black Sharks, secured their AFCON qualification with a 5-2 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in the second leg of their playoff in July 2024.
This win cemented a 10-5 aggregate score, ensuring their place in the 2024 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations held in Egypt.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) launched the Beach Soccer Premier League in April 2023, aiming to expand the sport’s reach.
The league had 14 clubs participating from regions including Greater Accra, Central, Volta, and Eastern.
Each particpating club was handed GH₵10,000 to aid preparations, with the league winner receiving GH₵15,000.
