Several communities in Accra, including Achimota, Kokomlemle, and Kotobabi, are experiencing a power outage today due to a fire that damaged a critical component of the city’s electricity infrastructure.
According to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the outage is linked to a fire incident that occurred at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point (BSP).
“The outage being experienced is as a result of a fire outbreak on the Earthing Transformer at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point,” the company stated in a public notice.
The power disruption has affected a wide range of areas such as North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Asylum Down, Pig Farm, Circle, Adabraka, New Town, Nima, Gimpa, Kisseiman, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
ECG says its technical team is “working to rectify the fault and restore supply fully by 2:00 pm today, 4th May, 2025.”
The company also expressed regret for the inconvenience, assuring residents that they are doing everything possible to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
