1 min readEngineers from the Ghana Armed Forces have visited the Asuokow community in the Eastern Region to assess the risks schoolchildren face when crossing a hazardous water body to access education.

The visit follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama for urgent action after a viral video highlighted the dangerous conditions the children endure.

In a Facebook post on Monday, 10th February, Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the issue.

“Engineers of the Ghana Armed Forces have already visited Asuokow community (where young school children have to cross this water body to access school) in the Eastern Region,” he stated.

Dr Omane Boamah assured the public that efforts are underway to provide a permanent solution.

“As President John Dramani Mahama assured Ghanaians, we're working to permanently and urgently resolve the challenge the people and the schoolchildren of Asuokow are facing,” he added.

The visit by the military engineers marks the first step toward improving safety for schoolchildren in the community, reinforcing the government’s commitment to education and child welfare.
