Founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, has turned down an invitation to join Alan Kyerematen's Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) for the 2024 general elections.
Firmly asserting GUM's stance against forming alliances with any political party or movement, Andrews cited Kyerematen's absence from the Electoral Commission's records as a key reason for declining the offer.
He emphasized the distinction between GUM as a political party and ARC as a movement, insisting that alliances should be forged among political parties, not movements.
Andrews expressed GUM's willingness to consider forming alliances with leading political parties in a potential run-off scenario.
During an appearance on Class 91.3 FM's morning show hosted by Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang on Monday, April 29, 2024, Andrews suggested that Kyerematen should instead consider joining GUM to further the goal of unseating the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.
Highlighting the political nature of GUM in contrast to ARC, which he described as a movement, Andrews reiterated the importance of alliances being between political entities.
