A recent video capturing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, and other prominent figures dancing at the Founders’ Day luncheon has gone viral. The footage, showing the leaders dancing to Amakye Dede’s popular songs 'Sike ne Barima' and 'Akwadawesoa,' has sparked controversy online.
Critics on social media have expressed discontent, accusing the government of attempting to manipulate historical narratives for personal gain. Others questioned the appropriateness of hosting such an event amid the country's economic struggles. Some viewers have also voiced concerns about the apparent lack of visionary and empathetic leadership.
Founders' Day, observed annually on August 4, honors the contributions of the 'Big Six' Kwame Nkrumah, Joseph Boakye Danquah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, William Ofori Atta, and Edward Akufo-Addo who played pivotal roles in Ghana’s fight for independence.
