2 mins readOfficers from the Ghana Immigration Service at the Sangba Inland Checkpoint have arrested two men who were caught in possession of weapons and ammunition.The men, who were riding two separate motorcycles, initially tried to bribe the officers with GHC20. However, when the officers insisted on inspecting the contents of the box, the suspects attempted to flee. However, they were pursued and later arrested by the officers.

In a video shared by Ed Hub on X (formerly Twitter), the suspects, named Matthew Balon and Nlibe Otanpi, were detained after attempting to bypass the checkpoint. At around 5 p.m. today, two individuals, identified as Nlibe Otanpi and Balon Matthew (who claims to be an area coordinator for the NDC), were arrested by Immigration officers at the Sangba Inland checkpoint.

During interrogation, Balon Matthew, who claimed to be an area coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), gave two different explanations for how they acquired the weapons.He initially stated that they purchased the weapons from a military man, with each rifle costing GHS 25,000, but later claimed they obtained the weapons from his uncle in Accra.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Immigration Service are yet to issue an official statement on the incident reported to have occurred on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
