The blaze, which ignited around 3:50 a.m., impacted shops dealing in chemicals, fabrics, and coat linings.

Market security personnel and the fire patrol team acted promptly, utilizing dry chemical extinguishers and water to contain the fire before the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived to take charge of the operation.

Firefighters swiftly brought the situation under control, fully extinguishing the flames within an hour and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby stores. Out of 25 shops at risk, 23 were saved, averting a potential disaster.

This incident follows a similar fire outbreak at the market on January 24, 2025. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the two affected shops sustained partial damage.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has yet to issue a statement condemning the military’s actions.
