1 min readThree lives have been lost, with numerous others injured, following an eruption of violence in Nkwanta, situated in the Oti Region.Residents are living in fear after clashes broke out on Wednesday, January 16, and continued into the early hours of Thursday. The atmosphere remains fraught with tension, as sporadic gunfire has been heard throughout the area.

Videos acquired by Citi News show the terrifying sound of gunshots, as well as widespread damage to property. Early reports suggest that the violence is rooted in tribal disputes, with three indigenous groups—the Challa and Adele on one side, and the Achodes on the other—engaged in the unrest.At present, it remains uncertain whether authorities have deployed security personnel to restore peace.
