While telling her story of how she survived in China while she was furthering her education, Ama, during an interview on Berla Mundi’s “ The DayShow “on TV3, recounted her distress over common words that cost her two jobs in the Asian country.According to her, she knew nobody in China during her stay there, but she “was able to manoeuvre her through” because she took on side jobs such as teaching English in some Chinese schools.

She recounts how she lost her first job over the mispronunciation of the lion, which took her out of what she anticipated to be another source of income for her survival.She said, “In China, I knew nobody, but I was able to manoeuvre my way through because I was doing some side business; I was teaching English. Our phonetics here in Ghana are quite different from those in China.

After managing to get a second job, on another occasion, the comedy show host added, that“I didn't know that Thursday should be pronounced as thuhz-day; we were thought 'Turz-day' , not knowing it was a dentine. I was there and the owner of the school walked to me and ordered me to pack my bags because what I was teaching the kids was deadly.Same with my second school , there I lost my job again over the pronunciation of lion”.
