Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has dismissed claims that he plans to change the GFA’s statutes just to secure a third term in office.
He explained that when the Normalisation Committee handed over to his administration in 2019, they were allowed to review the statutes when necessary to promote fairness and transparency.
Okraku, who also serves as the second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said his team has identified issues in the current statutes that need to be addressed. That’s why a committee is reviewing them.
In an interview with Metro TV, Okraku said he is disappointed that people are focusing on rumours about his future ambitions instead of the reforms themselves.
He stressed that the ongoing changes are meant to benefit the GFA as a whole, not to serve his personal interest.
"I think that when we first met prior to the signing of the statutes in 2019, there was an overwhelming agreement that we should accept the statutes in their form and then find the right time to have a relook, since there were a lot of challenging areas within the statutes.
"it's exactly what we are following. I don't know why people think about the third term or a third term for somebody. The statutes are not made for any individual; they are made for the federation," he clarified.
Some members of the sports community have called on Kurt Okraku to step aside after his current term and give someone else the opportunity to lead Ghana football.
For now, it's unclear whether the GFA President will seek a third term or not.
