A survivor of the tragic Appiatse explosion, William Asiedu Bentil, has opened up about the devastating impact the incident has had on his life.Although he looks well physically, he has revealed that he can no longer perform sexually.Speaking to the media, Mr. Bentil also shared the challenges he and other survivors are facing. He mentioned that he can barely see at night due to the trauma from the explosion.

The explosion not only left physical scars but also deeply affected the lives of those who survived.During an interview with the media, Mr. Bentil expressed the dire situation that many survivors find themselves in, as they struggle to make ends meet.He, as a father of four, highlighted the heartbreaking consequences the explosion had on his family.

Two of his children have become deformed, one dropped out of school, and another has become a truant.He went on to explain that his church had provided financial assistance of GH¢4000 to cover school fees, but the overall financial burden remains overwhelming.“One of my children has become a truant, the other has dropped out of the university and one suffered serious hand injuries. It is my church that supported me with GH¢4000 to pay fees.

Most of us who sustained serious injuries are suffering,” he added.Mr. Bentil and others who sustained serious injuries continue to face immense challenges even after the government covered their hospital bills.Their livelihoods according to hm, have been severely impacted, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and financial struggle.In a plea for help, Mr.

Bentil emphasized the need for capital to improve their economic circumstances, as merely having shelter without a source of income is not enough to provide for their families and regain a sense of normalcy in their lives.

“If you build me a house and there is no source of income for me and my family to feed, how do I sleep peacefully with all these problems? After government foot the hospital bills, we were discharged even though some had not fully recovered. Things are very difficult so we need capital,” he added.

Recalling the tragic incident on January 20, 2022, when a vehicle transporting mining explosives crashed, resulting in an explosive-induced fire that claimed the lives of approximately 13 individuals at Appiatse.In a positive development, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, the Chairperson of the Appiatse Support Fund, disclosed that substantial support has been mobilized for the community's recovery endeavor.

According to him, the fund has successfully garnered GHC62 million in donations, all dedicated to expediting the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Appiatse township, which suffered devastating losses due to the fire in the early part of last year.
